Take part

Show cancer who’s boss by taking on a 5k or a 10k Race for Life event. Run, walk or dance your way through the course and help us say "cancer we're coming to get you."

You and your friends can also take part by volunteering. Our events can't take place without the hundreds of people who give up their time for a few hours to set up the courses and get everyone in the Race for Life mood. Find out more and register to be a volunteer.

The course

The course takes a scenic route through the picturesque Heaton Park. Featuring a mix of terrain with roads, footpaths and grass, it gives some stunning views of the park, golf course and the Hall. The event has an amazing atmosphere; you couldn’t ask for anything better.

Meeting point

The start line is in the centre of the park, between the tram museum and boating lake.

On the day

Don’t forget to bring your friends and family along to support you. There will also be some extra activities and items to buy so please remember to bring some spare change.

 On Saturday, make sure you look out for the Aqua Pura team to get a special keepsake from your event.

On Sunday, head over to the ScottishPower tent – it’s the one with the big inflatable hands! Grab your free pink glove, get your photo taken and you can join the High 5 Wave.

Public transport

To prevent congestion, we strongly recommend you use public transport or car share to your Race for Life event.

Parking and travel information

Please arrive at least an hour before the start of your Race for Life event to avoid queuing.

Due to limited parking on site, please use public transport. Parking available is charged by the venue at 2GBP, however spaces are restricted.

The nearest metro station is Heaton Park. Trams run regularly from the City Centre and other destinations. There is a gate into the park directly opposite the station. You can also take the number 135 from Manchester City Centre, which stops at the tram station on Bury Old Road. Many buses travel to Heaton Park, including 56, 59, 64, 64A, 135, 138, 150, 151, 484.
