Shape up and reduce your cancer risk

Did you know that more than 4 in 10 cancers in the UK could be prevented by lifestyle changes? Race for Life is a great opportunity to kick-start a healthier lifestyle.

Give up smoking

Smoking is by far the most important preventable cause of cancer in the world and accounts for more than 1 in 4 UK cancer deaths. Get advice and support for giving up smoking before your Race for Life event and you’ll soon notice how much faster you’re going.

Keep active

It doesn’t have to be the gym or training for a marathon. Just half an hour of moderate activity, such as walking, cycling, dancing, skating or even doing housework, five days a week, can have a positive effect on your health.

Physical activity is a really important part of a healthy lifestyle and can help to reduce the risk of breast, womb and bowel cancer. The more active you are, the more you can reduce the risk of cancer.

Keep a healthy weight

Many people are surprised to learn that aside from not smoking, keeping a healthy weight is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of cancer. Eating a healthy, balanced diet together with physical activity can help to cut the chances of developing some types of cancer.

We have teamed up with Weight Concern to produce ten top tips for a healthy weight. We’ve even created a free handy shopping card that can help you make sense of food labels and make healthy choices. Order yours today and become cancer’s worst nightmare.

Lose the booze

Did you know that alchohol can cause seven different types of cancer? The more you cut down on alcohol, the more you reduce the risk of cancer and you'll probably feel a lot better too. Track your drinking with our alcohol gadget.
