Leading the cheer!

Race for Life is one of the biggest charity events in the Tesco calendar and 2015 was no exception with nearly 21,000 of our colleagues in store, head office and distribution centres taking part and raising over £850,000 making it one of the best years yet. A massive thank you to all our colleagues across the business, whether you took part in a race, cheered a colleague across the finish line, or helped or took part in a fundraiser in store. We couldn’t do it without you!

Jessica Dawson, Community Champion at Tesco Princes Road, Chelmsford, took part in a Pretty Muddy event at Basildon and a Race for Life 5k in Chelmsford and said:

“I've been taking part for the last 10 years as I lost my father and my friend to cancer and then last year was diagnosed with breast cancer myself. Taking part was important to me to raise the importance of life-saving cancer research. Without this a lot of people (including me) wouldn’t be here today.

"A Race for Life hides itself in a festival atmosphere and you can't help enjoying yourself. Taking part with my daughter this year was especially heart-warming, and it was good to have her support when I found myself getting tired!
"Being a Tesco colleague makes me very proud to be part of this fantastic partnership and having experienced cancer myself it gives me an extra reason to support this amazing charity.”

In 2016, we will be celebrating fifteen years in partnership with Cancer Research UK and we know we can count on all our colleagues to make it another special year. We hope that many of our colleagues will be keeping their diaries free to take part in the Race for Life events and look forward to seeing you there!
