Course information

The 10k course is a double lap along the picturesque Caledonian Canal. Aside from a small hill at the start and end of the route, the course is very flat. Starting at the Highland Rugby Club, the route joins the Caledonian Canal footpath past the Torvean and Tomnahurich swing bridges, crossing the canal just before the Muirtown Swing Bridge, to head back down the west side of the canal. You complete a second lap of the canal path, starting again at the Tomnahurich Swing bridge, before finishing back at the Highland Rugby Club. With the canal closed to boat traffic for the duration of the event, enjoy the route without interuptions from bridge lifts.

The start and the full course is on tarmac paths or roads, most of which have loose stones on the surface. The finish is on grass.

Please remember to bring your own water bottle already filled as there will be no bottled water provided at events. There will be a water refill station 1/2 around the course and a ScottishPower water refill st

This route is mostly flat and on hardstanding paths throughout. There is only one small section at the end of the route on grass which can be avoid if neccessary. Some wheelchair users may require assistance with some of the paths due to the loose stones on the surfaces. Paths should not be impacted by bad weather.

One of the canal bridges has one step on either end. This can be avoided, but will reduce the course route by approx 500m.

We plan to have a British Sign Language Interpretor on stage while our event host is speaking.

Bring a water bottle
We’re trying to reduce single-use plastic at Race for Life. Please bring your own reusable water bottle, already filled. We'll provide an ecofriendly water-refill station at the finish that uses as little single-use plastic as possible.

Have the right kit
It’s a good idea to check the weather before your event and dress accordingly. Think breathable sports gear (leggings and shorts are ideal) and well-fitting trainers. For Pretty Muddy, wear something you don’t mind getting dirty.
Check out the latest range of Race for Life clothing and accessories in our online shop.

Be sun smart
Stay sun safe by finding shade when you’re not on the course and covering up with clothes, a hat and sunglasses. On parts you can’t cover, use sunscreen with at least SPF15 and a 4 or 5 star rating. Find out more about being sun smart.

Your back sign and race number
Remember to bring your back sign and Race number which will be sent to you in the post – don’t forget safety pins so you can attach them to you.
