The Wakefield 5k course is a single lap route mostly on grass and paths. The route is undulating in parts with an occasional slight incline. Due to the course being on grass, it may be slightly muddy underfoot depending on recent weather conditions.
Please bring a reusable water bottle with you if you require water during the event, as there will only be water available at the finish.
The meeting point and start line is within Thornes Park in a field that runs alongside Lawefield Lane near the playground. The finish line will also be within a similar vicinity.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, we’ll be operating a staggered start time in 2021 to ensure your safety on event day. Additional start times may become available as/when needed.
There is no designated event parking available at the venue. The car park by the Athletics Stadium is closed to participants due to route running alongside it. The bottom of this car park can be used for disabled users only. Thorne Road car park is open as usual for park users.
Please utilise town centre Pay and Display Car Parks which are and approximately a 10-15 minute walk to Thornes Park.
The nearest train station is Wakefield Westgate Rail Station which is a 10-15 minute walk away. There are a number of buses that run along Thornes Road and Park Grove Road which are a 3 min walk away from the event site.
Although most the course is along paths, some have quite short steep inclines/declines and large areas are run on grass. Therefore we would not recommend this course as being suitable for wheelchairs.
