The Blackburn 5k course is a single lap route mostly on flat grass with the occasional slight incline. The route starts and finishes on the field near the play area and takes a full lap around the park, and involves crossing Tower Road which will be managed by stewards for participant and public safety. Due to the course being on grass, it may be slightly muddy underfoot depending on recent weather conditions.
Please bring a reusable water bottle with you if you require water during the event, as there will only be water available at the finish.
The meeting point and start line can be found near the play area within Witton Park. The finish line will also be within a similar vicinity.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, we’ll be operating a staggered start time in 2021 to ensure your safety on event day. Additional start times may become available as/when needed.
A car park is located within the venue at the main entrance to the park off Preston Old Road A674, next to the all-weather sports turf facilities and next to Pleasington playing fields pavilion.
For disabled park users, there are car parking bays on the main car park and also very limited parking at the pavilion.
Additional parking can be located over the road within Witton Business Park. Please take great care when crossing the road to and from this car park to Witton Park and allow time for parking. There is a 3-5 min walk from the car parks to the event site.
The nearest railway stations to the park are Cherry Tree and Mill Hill, which are both a half mile away. Blackburn railway station is 1 mile away.
The event site is on grass and is a 3 minutes walk from the nearest car park (venue car park). The course is predominantly on grass which can become boggy in wet conditions with some sections using pre-existing paths.
We would advise that this event is wheelchair accessible but with assistance. The course is mainly flat but there are sections of the course that are slightly uphill. It also narrows in some sections due to access gates and the two way traffic of participants.
Please note, whilst we hope we can open our events to families and friends supporting on the day, this may not be possible due to government guidelines around COVID-19.
