The Sunderland route is a single lap course set in the grounds of this former colliery that starts and finishes on the field adjacent to the children’s play area. The route explores the park, taking in the lake, local wildlife and providing beautiful views of Penshaw Monument and across the North East. The course is mainly on footpaths with a couple of hills along the way. The main event site is on grass so may be slightly muddy underfoot depending on recent weather.
Please bring a reusable water bottle with you if you require water during the event, as there will only be water available at the finish.
The start line is located on the field adjacent to the children's play area.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, we’ll be operating a staggered start time in 2021 to ensure your safety on event day. Additional start times may become available as/when needed.
Free event parking is provided at this venue. Follow directions from stewards and signage on the day.
There are a number of buses that run along Chester Road, all of which are accessible to Herrington Country Park.
We recommend that this event is suitable for wheelchair users with assistance. The course utilises the paths within the park which are extremely uneven throughout, with narrow sections and inclines making the terrain difficult for wheelchair users. The main event site is on grass so may be slightly muddy underfoot depending on recent weather conditions. Designated car parking spaces are provided, car parking stewards will direct you on arrival.
Please note, whilst we hope we can open our events to families and friends supporting on the day, this may not be possible due to government guidelines around COVID-19. Please refer to the section ‘ how we are keeping you safe’ https://raceforlife.cancerresearchuk.org/your-safety for further updates.
