The Caernarfon 5k course heads along the scenic Menai Straight, featuring the Anglesey shore as a background. The course is mainly on a flat tarmac road with incredible views of the Snowdonia Mountains and Caernarfon Castle.
The start line and main event area is located on Coed Helen Recreation Ground football pitch. Once you have parked please make your way to the Caernarfon Harbour and cross the pedestrian bridge. There will be a steward present along Aber Foreshore Road to direct you through the one-way system. If you are a wheelchair user, please ask the steward for the alternative route that avoids the slope. The finish line will be located along Aber Foreshore Road just outside Coed Helen Recreation Ground.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, we’ll be operating a staggered start time in 2021 to ensure your safety on event day. Additional start times may become available as/when needed.
There are 3 town centre car parks on the day: Harbour, Multi-storey and Shell car park.
There will be event signage from the main roads to direct you and stewards as you arrive. Blue Badge users are advised to park at the Harbour car park. Please ask the steward for the alternative route that avoids the slope.
There is no official event parking available at the venue.
Please note, Caernarfon Half Marathon will be taking place on the 19th September 2021 from 09:30am. Part of the Half marathon course shares the same route as the Caernarfon Race for Life 5k, therefore it is expected there may be some participants from the half marathon along Aber Foreshore road at 11:30am, when Caernarfon Race for Life is scheduled to begin. Please be wary and respectful of other participants along the course.
The half marathon is expected to partially close roads along the course, but will not be operating full road closures. Please do plan your journey as there may be some minor disruption.
We would recommend that this event is suitable for wheelchair users as the course is mainly on tarmac and remains flat throughout. A small section of the course is gravelled, but this area can be avoided if required. The event site is on a grassed area and could become boggy in bad weather conditions.
If spectating, the event site is mainly on grass so those with accessibility issues may require assistance on the uneven surfaces. Please be aware that in wet weather ground conditions on the grassed areas can deteriorate quickly.
If you require any further information on the accessibility of a Race for Life event, or wish to bring a carer/helper to accompany you, please contact our Supporter Hotline on 0300 123 0770 and press 1 when prompted (Opening hours are 8am - 6pm Monday to Friday) or email us at email@example.com
Please note, whilst we hope we can open our events to families and friends supporting on the day, this may not be possible due to government guidelines around COVID-19. Please refer to the section ‘ how we are keeping you safe’ https://raceforlife.cancerresearchuk.org/your-safety for further updates.
We will be giving away bottled water at the finish line. But due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and our plans to reduce single use plastics at our events we encourage participants to bring their own water or hydration fluids on the day.
