About the 5k event

The 5k is an achievable distance and a good first challenge for most people. At just over 3 miles it can take about an hour to walk on average, but there's no pressure to finish in a certain time. Go at your own pace to help fund life-saving cancer research.

Course information

The start and finish are on hardstanding. The event site is entirely on grass which is predominantly flat, however it can be uneven. Ground ground conditions may vary according to recent weather conditions. There is a tarmac path running around the perimeter of the event site

The 5k course is a single lap, predominantly on tarmac paths. It is mostly flat but there a 10m uphill slope halfway round. Some parts of the route involve going onto grass, but an accessible route is available if required

There will not be any water refill stations along the course so if you require water during the event, please remember to bring your own reusable water bottle already filled up.  A Scottish Power water refill station will be available to use at the finish 


Please arrive 30 to 45mins before your start time so that you are prepared and ready to go on time

You can take part in any Race for Life event as an individual or a group to raise money for life-saving research. Walk, jog or run together in a group or go solo at your own pace, or lead the way as a Group Leader and get family, friends and colleagues involved! However you choose to get muddy, you’re helping to beat cancer.

Pedestrians: The closest entrance to the event site is from Kings Road, through the main entrance to Meridian Showground


General Event Parking:  There is no designated parking available for the event. Pay and Display car parks can be found along Kings Road, 400 - 900m walk from the venue. Please note that Lakeside Car Park will have a slightly reduced number of spaces available on the event day. Meridian Road car park and St Anthony's Bank car park will be closed before and for the duration of the event. Please allow sufficient time to find parking and to walk to the venue


Blue Badge Parking: There is limited disabled parking available at Lakeside Car Park. The journey from this car park to the event site is a 250m walk on a tarmac path


Volunteer Parking: Volunteers can park free of charge at the Meridian Point car park. Volunteers must collect a parking pass from the event site on arrival and display it in their vehicle


Drop Offs: There is no descignated drop off point for the event. Motorists are able to drop off passengers at the Lakeside car park and Meridian Point car park. Please do so in a safe manner, being mindful of traffic and local residents. 

Bus: Various bus services drop-off along Meridian Road. Plan your journey at www.eastyorkshirebuses.co.uk


Train: The nearest station is Cleethorpes, which is 1.8 miles from the venue


Electric Charging points: The closest car charging point to the event site is the EV Charging Point on St Peter's Avenue, DN35 8HG


Cycling & Bike Racks: There is no designated bike parking at the Meridian Showground but there are bike racks just outside the showground entrance

We have assessed this route and concluded it is wheelchair accessible with assistance. Some parts of the route involve going onto grass, but an accessible route is available if required

We aim to have a British Sign Language Interpreter  available on stage whilst our event host is speaking 

Bring a water bottle
We’re trying to reduce single-use plastic at Race for Life. Please bring your own reusable water bottle, already filled. We'll provide an ecofriendly water-refill station at the finish that uses as little single-use plastic as possible.

Have the right kit
It’s a good idea to check the weather before your event and dress accordingly. Think breathable sports gear (leggings and shorts are ideal) and well-fitting trainers. For Pretty Muddy, wear something you don’t mind getting dirty.

Be sun smart
Stay sun safe by finding shade when you’re not on the course and covering up with clothes, a hat and sunglasses. On parts you can’t cover, use sunscreen with at least SPF15 and a 4 or 5 star rating. Find out more about being sun smart.

Your back sign and race number
Remember to bring your back sign and Race number which will be sent to you in the post – don’t forget safety pins so you can attach them to you.
