From Brecon Showground you follow the Monmouthshire & Brecon canal before crossing the bridge over the river Usk and heading out of Brecon ascending to your first support point. From here is a strenuous mountain walk up to the distinctively shaped summit of Pen Y Fan, the highest peak in South Wales at 886 metres. On a clear day the views from the summit are spectacular, both of the Beacons Mountain range and of the surrounding landscape. From here we head slightly down from the summit before taking the steep climb up to Cribyn (795m) and looking back at the magnificent views back towards Pen Y Fan. We then descend south west picking up the Taff Trail through the stunning Talybont Forest walking past Talbont Reservoir before joining the Monmouthshire & Brecon canal at Talybont-on-Usk. The route continues along the stunning canal towpath all the way back to the Brecon Showground.
39.9km / 24.79 miles with a 933m ascent and 933m descent
