About the 5k event

Race for Life 5k is a great first challenge, no matter your age or fitness level. Go solo and join hundreds of people on the day, or sign up as a group with friends and family. There's no pressure to finish in a certain time, so walk, jog or run at your own pace and enjoy the atmosphere! However you take part, you're helping to beat cancer.

Course information

Historic Birkenhead Park is renowned as the world's first publicly funded civic park and served as the direct inspiration for New York's Central Park. The course takes in the park’s beauty and heritage in its entirety, including picturesque lakes, bridges, and woodland. The course starts and finishes on grass then is on flat tarmac paths throughout.

The start and finish lines are located on the field behind the Birkenhead Sea Cadets.

By car
General Event Parking:
There is no designated car parks available at this event. There is limited on street parking on the roads surrounding the park, however please note that Ashville Road will be closed as it forms part of the route.

Drop Offs: There is no designated drop off point. The closest entrance gate to the event site is on Park Road East.

Blue Badge Parking: There is no parking available at this event.

Electric Charging points: There are none available at this event.

Public transport and pedestrians:
Pedestrians:
The closest pedestrian entrance to the event site is via the entrance gate on Park Road East - approximately 140m from the event site.

Bus: There are many bus routes that stop at Birkenhead Park. Please visit the Merseytravel website to plan your journey.

Train: Birkenhead Park train station is approx. 0.5 miles from the event site (15-minute walk)

Event Site:
The start and finish areas are on grass, which is generally flat and firm underfoot. In wet weather, the ground may become soft or muddy and assistance may be required.

Course:
The route starts and finishes on grass then takes place on flat tarmac paths throughout, although these can sometimes be uneven. 

Parking:
