Life is worth Racing for. Enter Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life and raise money for life-saving cancer research.
The 5k is an achievable distance and a good first challenge for most people. At just over 3 miles it can take about an hour to walk on average, but there's no pressure to finish in a certain time. Go at your own pace to help fund life-saving cancer research.
This single lap course weaves through Town Moor and continues along the Great North Road before entering the Town Moor once again. A small section runs along Grandstand Road before participants return to the event site on the Town Moor. The Newcastle route is a flat course on mixed terrain including paths, road and some small sections on grass. The main event site is on grass so may be slightly muddy underfoot depending on recent weather conditions.
There will not be any water refill stations along the course so if you require water during the event, please remember to bring your own reusable water bottle already filled up. A ScottishPower water refill station will be available to use at the finish.
Please arrive 30 to 45 mins before your start time so that you are prepared and ready to go on time.

You can take part in any Race for Life event as an individual or a group to raise money for life-saving research. Walk, jog or run together in a group or go solo at your own pace, or lead the way as a Group Leader and get family, friends and colleagues involved! However you choose to take part, you’re helping to beat cancer.
Shake off any pre-Race nerves and get moving with our fun warm-up session just before your event.
Bring along as many supporters as you like to cheer you on! We’ve got things for everyone to do, check out the Location section above to see what’s happening on the day.
After you've completed the course, stay on and celebrate with other participants, friends and family with a picnic in the park.

The start and finish lines are situated within the Town Moor on the field adjacent to the Claremont Road bridge and Exhibition Park.

This event is recommended as suitable for wheelchair users with assistance due to terrain that can be very difficult to navigate. The majority of the course utilises the paths of the Town Moor which are surfaced with large stones, thus creating long sections of uneven terrain. The main event site and some small sections of course are on grass so may be slightly muddy underfoot depending on recent weather conditions. The course can be adapted to avoid grass sections. Please speak to a member of staff on the day for alternative route options.
