About the 5k event

The 5k is an achievable distance and a good first challenge for most people. At just over 3 miles it can take about an hour to walk on average, but there's no pressure to finish in a certain time. Go at your own pace to help fund life-saving cancer research.

Course information

The start and finish  is in University Parks, next to the cricket pavillion.


The course is on a mainly on pathways or road. The course is entirely flat and begins in the scenic University Park, where you will head out onto the historic streets of Oxford. Heading down Longwall Street, High Street, then proceeding under the Bridge of Sighs and along Parks Road, you will then re-enter the Park at Norham Gardens.

Please remember to bring your own water bottle already filled as there will be no bottled water provided at events. There will be a water refill station 1/2 around the course and a ScottishPower water refill station will be available to use at the finish. 

Please arrive 30 to 45mins before your start time so that you are prepared and ready to go on time. 

Our courses have been measured with a measuring wheel.  This is the most accurate measurement method and may not always match up with fitbits, strava and Apple watches.  Re

Join forces or go solo

You can take part in any Race for Life event as an individual or a group to raise money for life-saving research. Walk, jog or run together in a group or go solo at your own pace, or lead the way as a Group Leader and get family, friends and colleagues involved! However you choose to get muddy, you’re helping to beat cancer.

Shake off any pre-Race nerves and get moving with our fun warm-up session just before your event.

Travel information

Pedestrians: There are various gates around the park.
General Event Parking:  There is no event parking for the event. Please use City Centre car parks. The City also operates a Park and Ride network, the service 300 and 500 pass close to University Parks, but you can also use the 400 service and walk in from the High Street.
Blue Badge Parking: Limited Blue Badge parking is available at the park using South Parks Road. Please follow the signage and stewards directions. Please note, road closures start at 9am so access will be restricted after this time.
Public Transport:-
Bus: There are various bus routes around the City. Please visit www.oxfordbus.co.uk/ to plan your bus journey.
Train: The nearest train station is Oxford, which is a 22 minute walk to the park.
Electric Charging points: None available at the park. There are some locations around the City.
Cycling & Bike Racks: There are a number of cycle racks in the city centre and around the park.

We aim to provide our supporters with as much information as possible so that they can make an informed choice based on their own specific needs.

Event Site: The start and finish areas are both on the same grass area.

This course is entirely on paths and closed road.

Carers are welcome free of charge.
