Course information

The course is on a mixture of tarmaced paths, woodland trails and grass fields. The Walsall 10k course is a double lap of the 5k course that runs along many paths within the Victorian part of the park. The course then follows the perimeter of the Hatherton Lake, passing the Bandstand, Visitor Centre and the new play area. It then heads into the fields at the back of the venue, before heading back to the finish.

Please remember to bring your own water bottle already filled as there will be no bottled water provided at events. There will be a water refill station half way around the course and a ScottishPower water refill station will be available to use at the finish.

Please arrive 30 to 45mins before your start time so that you are prepared and ready to go on time. Our courses have been measured with a measuring wheel.  This is the most accurate measurement method and may not always match up with fitbit  strava and Apple watches.

We aim to provide our supporters with as much information as possible so that they can make an informed choice based on their own specific needs.

Event Site: The start and finish areas are both on the same grass field. Course: We would advise that our course is suitable for wheelchair users with assistance. The majority of the route is on a mixture of flat tarmac paths and woodland paths which include a few inclines, so anyone with accessibility issues may require assistance on the uneven and undulating sections. The grass field section toward the end may become unsuitable in poor weather, but this can easily be missed which would remove 2k of the route.

Carers are welcome free of charge.

Bring a water bottle
We’re trying to reduce single-use plastic at Race for Life. Please bring your own reusable water bottle, already filled. We'll provide an ecofriendly water-refill station at the finish that uses as little single-use plastic as possible.

Have the right kit
It’s a good idea to check the weather before your event and dress accordingly. Think breathable sports gear (leggings and shorts are ideal) and well-fitting trainers. For Pretty Muddy, wear something you don’t mind getting dirty.
Check out the latest range of Race for Life clothing and accessories in our online shop.

Be sun smart
Stay sun safe by finding shade when you’re not on the course and covering up with clothes, a hat and sunglasses. On parts you can’t cover, use sunscreen with at least SPF15 and a 4 or 5 star rating. Find out more about being sun smart.

Your back sign and race number
Remember to bring your back sign and Race number which will be sent to you in the post – don’t forget safety pins so you can attach them to you.
