About Pretty Muddy

Climb, crawl and slide your way around the Pretty Muddy® obstacle course at your own pace. 5k is just over 3 miles and can take about an hour to complete on average, but there's no pressure to finish in a certain time – it's all designed for fun! Get muddy as an individual or with a group of friends or family and raise money for life-saving cancer research.

Course information

The course takes in a scenic route of the park. The terrain is a mixture of grass and paths and can be undulating in parts. The course is mainly flat however there are a few inclines.The route is mainly on paths, however the event site is on grass.

There will not be any water refill stations along the course so if you require water during the event, please remember to bring your own reusable water bottle already filled up. You will be able to refill this at the refill station when you finish.

Please arrive 15 to 20 mins before your start time so that you are prepared and ready to go on time.

Our courses have been measured with a measuring wheel. This is the most accurate measurement method and may not always correspond with digital tracking apps and watches.

You can take part in any Race for Life event as an individual or a group to raise money for life-saving research. Walk, jog or run together in a group or go solo at your own pace, or lead the way as a Group Leader and get family, friends and colleagues involved! However you choose to get muddy, you’re helping to beat cancer.

Once you sign up for your Pretty Muddy® event, you'll receive an email with all the need-to-know details to help you feel fully prepared for the day.

Meeting point

The meeting point and start line by the Heaton Park Papal Monument. The finish line will also be within the similar vicinity.

Travel information

Due to recent weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances,  car parking will be extremely limited - We strongly recommend car users to travel to the event via public transport - Park & Ride is a great option and services have been increased to support the event - find out more https://tfgm.com/getting-to-race-for-life click on the map to find a station to park at on your route in.

Health and safety is our top priority, and we do not want to risk any damage to your vehicles or to the park itself - we hope this early notification will give you enough time to plan your journey in advance. To make your experience as comfortable as possible, we will have stewards at the Heaton Park Metrolink Station directing you to the event site, which is a 5 min walk away- this is a new event site for 2024 located in the Papal field. We will also have marquees on-site dedicated to changing facilities so that you can leave the event in clean clothing on Saturday.

Pedestrians: The closest entrance to the event site for pedestrians is via the entrance opposite the Heaton Park tram stop 

General Event Parking: Extremely limited event parking is available at the Lakeside Car Park on Sheepfoot Lane. Traffic Management will be in place to help direct you. Manchester City Council operate a Pay & Display system please ensure you arrive within plenty of time to purchase a ticket using cash at the machine or via the PayByPhone App, we recommend downloading the app in advance to avoid queuing on the day . Charges are priced at an hourly rate of £3.80 all day inc app fee.  Please adhere to the one way system and 5mph restrictions at all times. From this car park it is is 5 min walk to the event site on a flat surfaced path. However we do advise that you avoid parking at the venue and use the park and ride systems in place. 

Drop Off: Located at Lakeside Car Park on Sheepfoot Lane

Blue Badge Parking: Disabled parking is available at the Lakeside Car Park, and at another car parks within the venue. Please adhere to the one way system and 5mph restrictions at all times. From Lakeside Car Park it is is 5 min walk to the event site on a flat surfaced path.

Electric Charging points: Not available at the venue at present

Cycling & Bike Racks: Are available at the Farm Centre, this is a 8 min walk from the event site 

Changing Rooms: We will have 2 x Male/Female marquees that participants can use as a changing room. The marquees won’t have anything inside, they will just be open plan with exterior side panels on for privacy. Please take all of your item’s home with you or use the bins provided.

How Pretty Muddy® works

Pretty Muddy® events start times are staggered in 'waves', each wave starts every 15 minutes to ensure you're safe on the course. If you're signed up as a group, please make sure you sign up for the same wave time.

Climb, crawl and slide your way around the course at your own pace. We want you to tackle every obstacle the best you can, but if you need to skip to the next one our marshals will be on hand to assist. Find out more about Pretty Muddy® obstacles.

To be part of the action, you must be 13 years of age or older at the time of your event. We've got something special for our young participants too - check out our Pretty Muddy® Kids events for kids aged 12 and under!
