Course information

The Sunderland route is a double lap course set in the grounds of this former colliery that starts and finishes on the field adjacent to the children’s play area. The route explores the park, taking in the lake, local wildlife and providing beautiful views of Penshaw Monument and across the North East. The course is mainly on footpaths with a couple of hills along the way. The main event site is on grass so may be slightly muddy underfoot depending on recent weather.

Please remember to bring your own water bottle already filled as there will be no bottled water provided at events. ScottishPower water refill stations will be available to use.

Please arrive 30 to 45 minutes before your start time so that you are prepared and ready to go on time.

Free event parking is provided at this venue. Follow directions from stewards and signage on the day.

There are a number of buses that run along Chester Road, all of which are accessible to Herrington Country Park.

We recommend that this event is suitable for wheelchair users however assistance would be required. The course utilises the paths within the park which in places are uneven. The main event site is on grass so may be slightly muddy underfoot depending on recent weather conditions. Designated car parking spaces are provided, car parking stewards will direct you on arrival.

We are delighted to welcome spectators to Race for Life so please do bring your family and friends along to cheer you on and support you on the day.

Please bring a filled water bottle with you to your event as we're proactively managing our impact on the environment. We will be removing single-use plastic bottles.
