Course information

The Sunderland route is set in the grounds of this former colliery and starts and finishes on the field adjacent to the children’s play area, in the shadow of the amazing Penshaw Monument. The route explores the park, taking in the lake, local wildlife and providing beautiful views across the North East.  The course is mainly on footpaths with a couple of hills along the way.

Parking

This event is suitable for wheelchair users with assistance. The paths are extremely uneven throughout the course with narrow sections and inclines making the terrain difficult for wheelchair users. Assistance is definitely recommended.

Supporter / spectator access

Inviting your friends and family to support you on the day is a great idea, they can share in the joy with you as you cross the finish line and ring the bell.  They can also help you with those important things, like holding your belongings whilst you walk, jog or run round the course.

Please note, whilst we hope we can open our events to families and friends supporting on the day, this may not be possible due to government guidelines around COVID-19. We will update on this nearer the time.
