This is a 5k for everyone. This is thousands of people uniting with one purpose - to raise valuable funds for life-saving research.

Course information

The Durham course starts in St Leonard’s Playing fields before passing by County Hall. The route then loops around Aykley Heads Woods where you will see stunning views of the city. If you’re lucky you may even see some of the resident deer when you pass through the Aykley Woods nature reserve.

Please arrive 30 to 45 minutes before your start time so that you are prepared and ready to go on time.

Please remember to bring your own water bottle already filled as there will be no bottled water provided at events. ScottishPower water refill stations will be available to use.

Meeting point

The start and finish lines are situated on St Leonards Playing fields next to the County Hall car park, stewards and signage will direct you.

There is parking available at County Hall however we encourage you to car share or take public transport where possible. Durham train station is approximately a 10 minute walk from the start line and there are a number of bus services that stop at County Hall. The Traveline North East website can help you plan your journey.

Unfortunately this event is unsuitable for wheelchair users due to steep hills and the course utilising muddy and grass paths. Supporter / spectator access

We are delighted to welcome spectators to Race for Life so please do bring your family and friends along to cheer you on and support you on the day.

Please bring a filled water bottle with you to your event as we're proactively managing our impact on the environment. We will be removing single use plastic bottles.
