Race for Life Pretty Muddy Kids is our brilliant muddy obstacle course just for the little ones. They can take on the obstacles, crawl through the mud pit and have fun with friends, all the while helping raise valuable funds for life-saving research.
Please note, all children taking part must be at least 1.2m tall on day of event.

The event site, start line and finish line are all within Thornes Park playing field near the playground.

There is no designated event parking available at the venue. The postcode for the event site is Horbury Road,WF2 8TY however we do not have any parking facilities for participants at this event so please consider this in advance. The car park by the Athletics Stadium is closed to participants due to route running alongside it. The bottom of this car park can be used for disabled users only. Thorne Road car park is open as usual for park users.
Please utilise town centre Pay and Display Car Parks which are and approximately a 10-15 minute walk to Thornes Park.
The nearest train station is Wakefield Westgate Rail Station which is a 10-15 minute walk away. There are a number of buses that run along Thornes Road and Park Grove Road which are a 3 min walk away from the event site.

Wakefield Free City Bus links the city’s Westgate and Kirkgate train and bus stations. Buses run every ten minutes from 8:30am to 5:00pm on Saturdays. Stops 7 (Charlesworth Way), 10 (Westgate Retail and Leisure park) and 11 (Westgate) are the closest to Thornes Park.
The Wakefield Pretty Muddy Kids 5K course is a single lap route mostly on grass. The route starts and finishes in the Thornes Park playing fields and then goes around the field next to the skatepark, next it goes into the rugby field, down to the aviary and then back uphill to the former college site. From the former college site, the route crosses the top of the hill on grass and comes down a steep hill on grass, before heading around the amphitheatre. The route is undulating in parts and includes inclines and declines
Pretty Muddy obstacles are designed to be suitable for all levels of fitness and experience, kids can conquer as many or as little as they feel comfortable with
Remember to bring a towel and change of clothes for the way home!
Event Site: The event site, start and finish lines are all the same grass field in front of the playground in Thornes Park. There is a wide and tarmac path running around the perimeter to the event site.
Course: We have accessed this course and concluded that its is not wheelchair accessible. Please read the course information section and decide whether you feel this is a suitable course for you.
Taking Part: Pretty Muddy could be considered unsuitable for participants with a physical disability due to the nature of the obstacles.
