About the 5k event
The original and most popular Race for Life event, the 5k is an entry-level distance and an achievable first challenge for most. At just over 3 miles it can take about an hour to complete on average, but there's no pressure to finish in a certain time. Walk, jog, run or make your way around the course however suits you to fund life-saving research.
On the day
You fundraise, we discover
"Race for Life was an inspiring, uplifting, memorable day"
While your entry fee covers the cost of your event, it's the money you raise that will fund vital research and see more people surviving cancer.
The start line is on the promenade along Marine Terrace, outside the Bandstand. Please make your way to this event via Terrace Road.
If using what3words, enter ///roofs.melts.replaying in the free app, to find the exact starting point.
The following roads will be closed from 5am as part of the event:
- Victoria Terrace
- Marine Terrace
- Riverside Terrace
- New Promenade
- King Street
- Terrace Road
- South Marine Terrace
Please bear this in mind when planning your route and parking.
There is no official parking, so please park in town centre car parks and walk to the start.
Car sharing or public transport is advisable. The start is an 8 minute walk (0.4miles) from the train station and all local car parks are within a 15minute walk.
The event site and route is on a smooth hard standing surface. The entirety of the 5K route is flat and the majority of the route is wider than 2meters. This course is accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs. Please do note: due to the unlikely event of bad weather, sand can often be blown onto the pathway and streets and make the road and pavement slippery.
Throughout the whole 5K the course has an overall ascent of 38m.
